removed the ladder used to access the roof to stop them. Two friends got around this by climbing through a mosque window that connected to the rooftop.

Once up there with a small flashlight, they shone it toward the tree to spot ripe mangoes — and found another of their friends already sitting up in the tree, alone, around 2 AM. Startled and unnerved (it was very late for anyone to be up there alone), they called out to him, but he didn't respond. When they aimed the light at his face directly, they saw his eyes were blood-red, staring back at them in a way that terrified them further.

Before they could process it, the boy in the tree leapt straight down to the ground — and mid-fall, his shape seemed to shift into something large, dark, and animal-like (they couldn't say exactly what, since the flashlight wasn't fast enough to follow him down), before it simply vanished.

Shaken, the two friends went straight to their dormmate's room, only to find him fast asleep, having apparently never left his bed all night. Neither of the two friends who saw the figure in the tree has gone back up to that roof since.
