The Baby That Wasn't There: A Rural Ghost Encounter on a Village Road
A caller named Delwar shared a story about his older brother, who ran a rice trading business in their home village. One night, the brother and a friend were biking home from a distant market after a long day of trading, arriving around 11:00 PM. The friend's bicycle chain kept slipping, so he fell behind while Delwar's brother rode ahead.
As they approached the sloped path leading into their village, the brother suddenly saw what looked like an infant, no older than three or four months, lying in the road ahead, crying. He braked hard, confused — no one would leave a baby out at that hour in that remote spot. Panicked, he called for his
friend, who was still some distance back. When his friend arrived, he abandoned his bike and pointed toward where he'd seen the baby — but there was nothing there. No child, no blanket, nothing.
Shaken, they went home and told the family. That night, while the brother and his wife slept, the wife suddenly screamed and both of them were later found trembling uncontrollably. When calmed down, the brother explained he'd dreamed — or perhaps not dreamed — of a beautiful woman in white who took his hand and said, "Come with me. You saw my baby and ran away instead of bringing it to me." He said he'd woken up mid-dream and realized the woman was actually standing there, pulling at his arm, and he'd been gripping the bed frame in terror. His wife had seen her too.
The family brought in a huzur, who gave the brother a tabiz, and the disturbances stopped — until years later, after the brother's daughter was born. Around age four or five, the girl began screaming in the night that "someone" was strangling her, her face turning dark and her body going rigid. Doctors found nothing wrong. When it recurred at the exact same time the following night, the family consulted a kobiraj, who — without being told any prior history — said that a spirit had been unable to reach the father because of his tabiz, and had turned to his daughter instead. After the kobiraj performed prayers over the child and the house, the problems stopped for good.
